NFL Playoffs: Super Bowl Predictions

Image
It's the matchup nobody wanted: The Philadelphia Eagles will be playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Neutral fans were pulling for the AFC runner-up Buffalo Bills, who have never won a Super Bowl before, and the NFC runner-up Washington Commanders who have had a historic turn around from being one of the worst teams in the league last year to being one game away from the Super Bowl this year. We picked the Bills to beat the Chiefs, but we got that one wrong. We did get the Eagles pick right, but we could not have predicted that they would win in such a dominant fashion and put up 55 points against Washington.  With these two picks, we continue our perfectly balanced record of predictions we've been keeping since the playoffs began: We went 3-3 picking  the Wildcard Round , then 2-2 picking  the Divisional Round , and now 1-1 in the Conference Championship games. This makes us 6-6 picking the entirety of the playoffs, with only the Super Bowl to break that tie...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 9)

(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft. You can find all the previous parts, as well as a few supplemental articles about the 2025 NFL Draft  here ) To the dismay of many, the Kansas City Chiefs narrowly defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship just a few hours after the Philadelphia Eagles blew out the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship. The Commanders will receive the 29th pick in the draft and the Bills will pick 30th. The Eagles and Chiefs will meet in Super Bowl LIX on February 9th, with the loser of that game receiving the 31st pick and while the winner will get the 32nd pick.  With 85 days left until the Draft Weekend, here is how we think picks #21 to #25 will shake out: Pick #21: Pittsburgh Steelers Despite ending the regular season with a 4 game losing streak, the Steelers wound up with a record of 10-7 and a wildcard spot be...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 8)

(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft. You can find all the previous parts, as well as a few supplemental articles about the 2025 NFL Draft here ) Pick #16: Arizona Cardinals After starting off the season with a 2-4 record, the Cardinals put together a 4 game winning streak from Week 7 to Week 10 and fought their way back to 1st place in the NFC West as they headed into their Week 11 bye. Things quickly deteriorated after that as they lost their next 3 games in a row, and they finished the year back below .500 after going 2-5 in the final 7 games. They managed to end on a good note with a win over the 49ers in Week 18, but this 8-9 finish was still a disappointing way to wrap up the year. The head coach / general manager tandem of Jonathan Gannon and Monti Ossenfort are now 12-22 in the two seasons since they took over the team, and will be looking to finally put ...

Buckeyes Breaking Records: How the National Champions Could Shape the 2025 Draft Class

Image
On Monday night, a new king of college football was crowned. The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in a 34-23 victory that was not as close as the score would suggest. Claiming this year's National Championship title would arguably make Ohio State the most legitimate champion in history, thanks to the expanded College Football Playoff format that forced them to play more games against a tougher schedule than any previous champion. While winning the championship in this way is historic on its own, the Buckeyes might not be done making history just yet. Several Ohio State players saw their draft stock skyrocket during the CFP, and after winning the title game, the momentum for these players has never been stronger. This could mean Ohio State is in a position to break the record for most players from a single school being selected in one NFL draft class. The current record for the most players drafted from a single school in one draft is held by the University of Georgia. They s...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 7)

Image
(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft.) Pick #11: San Francisco 49ers The 49ers' fall from grace has been difficult to watch. The team that went 12-5 last year, made it to the Super Bowl, and lost by 3 in overtime had pretty high expectations for 2024. Instead, they went 6-11 and finished  last in their division. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will be returning for the duo's 9th season together, and with this draft pick they will likely be looking to tap into the deep pool of edge rushers available. Expect a player like James Pearce Jr. from Tennesee, Mykel Williams from Georgia, or Nick Scourton from Texas A&M to be the 11th player taken. Pick #12: Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott's season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 put the final nail in the coffin of the Cowboys' season. They were 3-4 heading into that game, and wen...

NFL Playoffs: Conference Championship Round Predictions

Image
As we predicted in  the last set of predictions , the Bills did defeat the Ravens and the Chiefs did defeat the Texans last weekend to advance to the AFC Championship Game. We also picked the Rams to beat the Eagles and the Lions to beat the Commanders, but we got both of those games wrong. This makes us 2-2 in the Divisional Round, and adding that to the 3-3 record we got for picking the Wild Card Round, we are perfectly balanced at 5-5 in this year's playoffs. Could be worse. Here's our picks for the next round: 1. Commanders vs. Eagles At 3:00PM next Sunday, the Washington Commanders will be in Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. It feels odd picking against the Commanders at this point, since they've proven most experts wrong two weeks in a row now, and it especially feels odd to pick the Eagles to win when we expected them to lose to the Rams last week. In terms of one-year turnarounds, this Commanders team might go down in history as the best ever. But the gut feeling...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 6)

Image
(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft.) Pick #6: Las Vegas Raiders In the days after their 34-20 loss to the Chargers in Week 18, the Raiders made the decision to fire both head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco. Las Vegas had been in position to get the first overall pick for most of the season, largely thanks to a ten game losing streak from Week 5 to Week 15, but then beat the Jaguars and Saints in Weeks 16 and 17. Now they're picking sixth, with no head coach and no general manager to give a clear indication of what direction they might take with this pick. Given the performance of Gardner Minshew and Aiden O'Connell this season, a quarterback has to be in consideration even though there is very little chance of them getting a first-round talent at that position if they're picking this late in the draft. Las Vegas seems like a ...

NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round Predictions

Image
The Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs begins this Saturday afternoon, and by the end of the weekend  only four teams will be left standing. The Chiefs and Lions will each be playing in their first playoff game after earning a bye in the first round, while the Texans, Commanders, Eagles, Bills, Rams and Ravens will try to keep the momentum going after their wins last week.  For the sake of transparency, Precipice Sports went 3-3 in predicting the Wild Card Round. We got the Bills, Ravens and Eagles picks correct but guessed wrong on the Commanders, Rams and Texans. Here is how we think the Divisional Round will go: 1. Texans vs. Chiefs Despite their 15-2 record and the first-round bye, this is the worst version of the Chiefs we've seen in years. 10 of those 15 wins were won by 7 points or less. The Texans looked great last week and they'll probably come out ahead in the early going of this game, but the magic that has gotten the Chiefs this far will last for one more week an...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 5)

Image
(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft.)     With one game left to play in the Wild Card round, the first 18 picks of the draft are set in stone and we know five of the six teams that will pick between 19 and 24. There have been many head coaches and GMs fired in the recent days that make some of these picks more interesting, and a few of these teams worked in a dramatic finale to their season to mix up the order a little bit more. Here is a look at how the first five picks of the 2025 NFL Draft should shape up as of now:  Pick #1: Tennessee Titans The Titans announced earlier this week that they will be keeping head coach Brian Callahan around, but have fired general manager Ran Carthon. The team ended the season with a 23-14 loss to the Texans at home, giving them a final record of 3-14. They are now 9-25 over their last two seasons. With the...

NFL Playoffs: Wildcard Round Predictions

The road to Super Bowl LIX officially begins on Saturday afternoon. Here are our predictions for the first round of this year's NFL Playoffs: 1. Denver Broncos @ Buffalo Bills   This game seems like an easy pick for the Bills, but it will be closer than expected. Look for the Broncos defense to come out strong in the first half, but for Josh Allen and the Bills to slip away in the second. Denver's got a better defensive unit and as a team, they played really well through the final weeks of the season so momentum is definitely on their side. It won't be enough to stop the Bills though, who just have too many ways to score points. Final Score: Bills win 27-17 2. Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens   As much as I like the Steelers defense, they just aren't going to be able to keep up with the Ravens. I think it ends up being closer than expected, but there just isn't enough talent on the offensive side of the ball for the Steelers to put up enough points here....

Sack In Time

As a group, edge rushers right now are better than they've ever been. Despite the continued evolution of NFL offenses, players like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, Brian Burns or Nick Bosa continue to haunt quarterbacks around the league. And each season, more and more players like them are coming into the league. Using a high draft pick on a productive edge rusher has been one of the safest things a pro team could do in recent years, and the offensive linemen responsible for stopping them just can't keep up. Blue chip OL prospects are few and fare between in the modern game, and many NFL coaches have criticized their college-level counterparts for not working on the development of offensive lineman as well-rounded blockers, instead choosing for focus on drilling highly specialized areas of the game that don't always translate to the next level. Edge rushers are some of the best athletes in the game these days and offensive coordinators everywhere are still trying to figure...

4 Games In Week 18 That Could Drastically Change the NFL Draft Order

The Cleveland Browns are in sole possession of the worst record in the NFL - for now. Following Saturday’s loss to the Ravens, the Browns have officially ended their season with a record of 3-14. This will go down as the worst record in football, but there are 28 other teams that still have one game left to play on Sunday. Three of those teams are 3-13, and right above them are five teams with a record of 4-12. That means the first 9 picks of the 2025 NFL Draft are currently only separated by a single win. With the tiebreaker for draft order now being Strength of Schedule, and the Strength of Schedule being determined by the combined win percentage of a team’s opponents that season, there are a whole lot of things that could change between now and Monday. Here is a look at 4 games taking place on Sunday that could result in the biggest disruption of the draft order: Bills (13-3) at Patriots (3-13) With a loss in this game, the Patriots would secure the first pick...

Much Ado About Skattebo

It has been three days since the Texas Longhorns defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl, and the double overtime thriller has been surrounded by its fair share of controversy. ASU Head Coach Kenny Dillingham's profanity-laden rant about the referees has gone viral. The physics-defying bounce of a "blocked" field goal has been replayed over and over again. Quinn Ewers’ gutsy touchdown pass on 4th & 13 to tie the game on a play where any other result would have ended their season will live on in Longhorn mythology. But despite all of the drama, none of this has captured the attention of the nation quite as much as the real story of this game: the legendary 4th quarter performance of Arizona State’s runningback Cam Skattebo.      The game opened innocuously enough. The Sun Devils received the ball and put together a 6 minute drive that stalled around midfield, resulting in a 39 yard field goal to take the 3-0 lead. The Lon...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 4)

(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order, the games that will determine it, and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft.)     In just a week, everything has changed. Once again, all mock drafts have been nullified and the experts are frantically redoing their projections for the rookie class of 2025. There's still time for things to get shaken up one more time, but for now let's look at what happened in the draft order this past week.     Last time we checked in, the 2-13 Giants held the first overall pick and they were expected to keep it for the rest of the season with their final two games being against the Colts and Eagles. What no one expected was for Drew Lock to put up the best game of his career on the way to a 45-33 victory at home. Lock completed 17 of 23 passes for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns, adding one more touchdown on the ground in the surprising upset. No Giants QB has ...
