The 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl is a Game That Shall Live In Infamy

Anyone who watched the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Saturday between would have witnessed some unsettling things. Last year, they ate a mascot. This year, they resurrected that mascot, then ate another mascot. The mascot victims in both cases were selected by the winners and then toasted in a giant toaster. It was great, if not a little uncomfortable. But the most unsettling thing that happened on Saturday wasn’t anything related to the ritual sacrifice of bipedal breakfast items. It was end of the actual football game that doesn't feel right.      The game itself was a match up between two of the best teams to miss the actual College Football Playoffs: the #18 Iowa State Cyclones at the #15 Miami Hurricanes. Typically at this point in the season, the top players on these teams view these games as a meaningless exhibition matches and will opt out of playing in them at all if they believe they have a chance at being drafted in April. For most, it's just not worth ...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 3)

(I Have No Wins and I Must Draft is our ongoing series that follows the 2025 NFL draft order and the players projected to be taken at the beginning of that draft.)   Following the Raiders defeat of the Jaguars on Sunday, they have improved to 3-12 on the season and moved from the #2 overall pick in the draft all the way back to #6. This is devastating news for any Las Vegas fans who were hoping for a simple route to getting a top quarterback prospect for next year. The Panthers, who are in a much less dire situation, pulled a surprise overtime victory over the Cardinals and are now slated to received the #8 overall pick with a record of 4-11. These two teams winning has drastically reshaped every mock draft in existence, and your projected top 10 draft picks now look like this: 1. Giants 2. Patriots 3. Jaguars 4. Titans 5. Browns 6. Raiders 7. Bears 8. Panthers 9. Jets 10. Saints   It seems like a forgone conclusion that the Giants are taking a quarterback with the #...

Beck's Last Stand

Editor's Note: When this story was first published on 12/23/24, it was believed that Carson Beck would be declaring for the NFL draft after the season. Since then, he has transferred to the University of Miami and will be competing at the NCAA level for one more year. For transparency, the story below remains unchanged since it's initial publication, even though it is no longer accurate.    ---      Earlier today, University of Georgia officials announced that quarterback Carson Beck will miss the remainder of the college football season after undergoing surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow. Beck sustained the injury during the final play of the first half in the SEC Championship Game against the Texas Longhorns back on December 7th.   Winning this game meant that Georgia earned a first round bye in the College Football Playoffs, so their next game isn't until January 1st. Bulldogs fans were optimistic that having almost a month of rest be...

Let's Be Fair to the Falcons

M any people laughed at the Atlanta Falcons last April when they used their first round pick, the 8th overall pick in the draft, on quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The move was puzzling because the Falcons were not believed to be in the market for a quarterback at that time, seeing as they had just signed Kirk Cousins to a 4 year, $180 million contract. There were also very few draft experts who had Penix that high up on their boards to see him as being worth a top 10 pick. It was a deep class for QBs and most experts considered Penix as the 5th or 6th best QB prospect at the time. Using a top 10 pick on a QB that was widely considered an early 2nd round talent seemed like a colossal mistake on draft night.      And yet here we are, just 14 regular season games later, and it looks like their decision to draft a QB just might have been the right one. The Kirk Cousins era in Atlanta has already come to an end. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris announced on Thursd...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 2)

Week 15 of the NFL season has come to an end, meaning each team only has three games left before the playoffs. The draft order hasn't changed much since last week, because every team with a top 12 pick lost except for the Jets. Their narrow defeat over the Mac Jones-led Jaguars has pushed them back to the 8th pick in the draft, while the Jaguars moved up to the 4th pick. This doesn't do much to change the way the draft is expected to play out; the Raider and Giants are still going to reach for their QBs, while the teams picking 3rd, 4th and 5th will get to pick the best player available at another position.      Looking ahead, there is still a lot of room for this order to be shaken up before the season is over. Over the next two weeks, the Jaguars have games against the Raiders and the Titans. A handful of other teams that are currently sitting close to a .500 record are rolling out new quarterbacks in the near future due to injury or whatever happened ...

An Apology to the Heisman Voters

Dear Heisman voters, Yesterday I called you too stupid to realize that Dillon Gabriel had a better season than Cam Ward. You proved me wrong. I’m sorry I doubted you.

2024 Heisman Predictions

The 2024 Heisman winner will be announced in just a few hours. Here are my last thoughts on each of the four finalists as college players before we start talking about them strictly as NFL prospects going forward: Travis Hunter (WR/CB) Colorado He has to win. What he has done this year is unprecedented in modern football and the fact that he’s actually been doing it at a high level for 2 years now and only managed to get injured on a late hit, freak accident liver problem is pretty amazing in retrospect. If he were JUST a receiver, he’d probably finish 3rd or 4th. If he were JUST a defensive back, we’d be talking about him for several other awards, but not the Heisman. But the fact that he has done both at such a high level is outstanding and he is entirely deserving of the Heisman for it. Ashton Jeanty (RB) Boise State Strictly speaking, Jeanty was the best offensive player of the year. He averaged almost 200 yards rushing per game and was averaging over 2 touchdowns per game at the e...

I Have No Wins and I Must Draft (Part 1)

As a diehard fan of two teams that are both 3-10, I am not having a good year. Needless to say, I am turning my attention to the 2025 draft. Let's examine the teams currently holding the top 5 picks:     Right now the Las Vegas Raiders are in possession of the #1 overall pick with their 2-11 record. They're the only team in the AFC with a worse record than the Patriots and Jaguars. They are also in desperate need of a quarterback. It's far too early to predict how teams will rank this year's QB prospects and I haven't had the time to scout all of the QB prospects yet, but it's generally pretty safe to assume the first quarterbacks off the board will be Shedeur Sanders from the University of Colorado, or Cam Ward from the University of Miami. If the Raiders are still holding pick #1 in April, I believe they will take one of those guys.  The New York Giants are currently in position to pick second, and they are in a slightly less desperate situation at q...
